We live outside of town and both 2 & 4 legged varmints

I keep a semi-auto in the back of the house. Roman is just waiting for the chance, armed like a regiment of SAS. Chance has it the last time a big Copperhead was spotted I had a choice of a 2" .38 with JHP or a .458 Mag. Ruger 77 closest at hand with ammo. The time before, a big Coyote in the back yard, I jumped the deck railing with a blade bayoneted Chinese SKS with 10-shots of 124 FMJ-HP. Not bad for a doggie attack in retrospect. Only I jumped into a huge patch of Spurweed stickers barefooted. It was much to the mirth of my children as I hooted and yowled begging of them to throw some towels, Crocs, or mats my direction for retreat and relief. Mr. Coyote was not impressed with the commotion and decided the next county would be easier pickings.

Every farm house needs a good .410 with ammo behind both the front and back doors. It's not interesting enough to move away without proper provocation and likely always to be there when you need it. Just enough gun to get the basic job done.
