16Gb is more than you'll probably ever need unless you plan on printing poster size pics.
Looks like the lens is Nikkor ED, Extra Low Dispersion glass, Nikon's top of the line.

Digital 2x zoom will not be as clear / sharp as the manual 40x, but play with it, you can't break it, just be sure to use the fastest memory card you can find.
