was an advocate of the .416 Rigby. Not near as popular back then as even now. John Wooters liked the .416 but wrote more about eh .416 Taylor which I think if a grand idea, even more so than the .416 Remington which had been done previously by Ackley I think. Besides bullets Rigby brass was a problem. Most were berdan primed until very late.

The old article said O'Connor lathe turned the belts off the .378 Weatherby and necked up resizing to make boxer primed .416 Rigby cases. I've never tried it and I'm not sure if I could muster the heart to ruin a huge belted case to see. Maybe just once in the name of science.

While on old sage men of yore... I forget the name at this moment but everyone would recognize it from the 50's and 60's. A famous hunter and ctg. developer. He reportedly used to place (2) unfired "magnum" rifle primers atop the 100+ gr. charge before seating his big stopper bullets in the cases! There was no rebuttal or explanation to this trick but I must draw some conclusions of my own. Perhaps he had some super-human insight that this might help ignite more powder as it burned toward the front of the powder column. Man, I don't venture more of a guess. Interesting and humorous though. I don't guess it would really hurt even if it did absolutely nothing other than satisfy his personal talisman. But it's not anything I'd want to try.
