Last weekend I took 5 22 pistols

and a 22 Rifle out along with 7 different kinds of ammo.

Eley Target
Winchester 40gr brass point
Federal standard lead
Remington Thunderbolt
Remington 36gr HP
Armscor 36gr HP
CCI 40gr standard

Like many others, curing the shortage I picked up whatever I could find and now have a mish mash of 22. Many are the standard head design as I do like to use the cutoff tool. I was testing for accuracy and to see which ones might shoot a bit dirtier than the others. The guns I took were

Marlin 880SQ Bolt rifle(4x scope)
Ruger bearcat(old)
Ruger 22/45 5.5"
Ruger MkIII Hunter
Ruger Single Six 6.5"
Ruger Charger - Original model w/ 3x Tasco WC scope

I didnt measure velocity yet, and I have a few more brands of ammo to test. But here is the short of it.

The Armscor was by far the best choice for the Marlin and the Charger, with the Marlin posting a sub 1" group at 50 yards. The Charger was close behind at about 1.5" but if I were to use a crosshair scope instead of the "dot" I believe I could really bring that down. The bearcat and the Mk 3 Hunter really preferred the lead remington thunderheads, with the MK 3 putting in a 1" group at 25 with open sights. However the Armscor came in a close second. The single six really showed no preference or dislike. I shot the federal, armscor and remington thunderheads about the same. None of these liked the winchester and only the single six shot the CCI well.

All of the standard leads rounds showed more residue, with them all being about the same. Of course the coated or copper plated ones were cleaner. I didnt run enough rounds through any of them to really make them to dirty to start getting sticky, but after 20 or so shots you could see which ones seemed to leave more.

I will need to chrony them but right now for me the leader is the Armscor 36gr HP. It shoots really well out of the rifle and charger and very well out of all but one of the pistols. I guess I will keep the thunderheads around for serious target work with the Mk3 and the bearcat. Everything will probably digest the Armscor. I hope to get out this next weekend and test about 4 more brands and see how they do. And then I will chrony the top choices to see if there is any real relevance there.
