and the strange part is 2 of them were 44 Specials, the 3rd was a 45 Long Colt. In both cases the whole top strap and upper half of the cylinder were gone. Both were reloads with a powder that a full 45 Long Colt load only fills up about 1/4th of the case. With a full load that only covers he bottom fourth of the case, it is very easy to double charge the case and not know it until you pull the trigger. This is why I try to tell folks to use a powder that a full load fills the case almost completely up. That way a double charge is not likely to slip by. Here is the last gun blown in half. The owner figures a double or even a triple load. no one was hurt in this instance.
