to stay in business you have to make a profit.

Several years ago BMW decided to stop selling the flat twin boxer motorcycle that brought the company from 1921 to 1980 or so. They made the "flying brick" inline bikes to phase the old beast out. It flopped horrendously. Since 1999 the motorcycle division has been absorbed by the automotive division, development and marketing. But NOW since all the old socks and sandal wearing professor biker types are dying off and it's the techy artsty rich boys buying $25k bikes, it's time to finally drive a stake in it's heart. The old pushrod aircooled boxer is certainly dead forever. A good lesson in product run and development. The old ones now enjoy and have a cult following.

Guns and products are like that too. Soon all those pristine Colts in Florida will be on the market.
