Had an interesting hunt yesterday.

I decided to do something different. I recall stories of my grandfather who grew up on a large farm in So. Worcester County. He had a trap line but would deer hunt a few towns over in the area of Holland and Brimfield Massachusetts. Bear in mind this was in the WW1 era and the early 1920's. Things were much different.

I wasn't sure exactly where he hunted but I kind of guessed it was an area that is now a management area called Leadmine . Graphite was mined for many years in the past and now the old shafts and entrances are blocked.

I arose early and got my TC Contender muzzleloader ready for a rainy AM hunt.

I more or less still hunted the whole area. I was somewhat impressed with a lot of old buck sign. Scrapes and rubs were pretty prevalent in that area. I do know someone else has been hunting it as someone must have used up a 100 yards of florescent orange surveyors tape marking a run each and every 100 feet.

I have this deer call that is basically a reed between two plastic pieces. It is a copy of the old Alaska deer call but this is the Maine deer call. Can't say if it helps or hurts but I had to make one in the woods because I left it at home.

Anyways. I did have some fun even though I did not get a shot or see a deer. I do know that next year it will take serious consideration for archery season if all goes well.
