Relating subsonic and flat noses.

I still have yet to do a little personal test. I've been a fan of flat nose cast bullets for a long time and feel I've proven there application to myself in the field. They are not always the best, but they will always work.

Subsonic rimfire will seldom work reliably in semi-auto handguns but mostly in semi-automatics that also feed shorts, and longs, like the old Remington's. They function fine in our Colt (Umarex) M4 .22RF clone with suppressor.

I have great interest in the new scalloped or fluted nose bullets currently marketed. They play on fluid dynamics to in effect perform as expanding bullets while being solid in construction. I truly pine for a cast bullet mould application to be forthcoming. Personally I do not think they would perform better than a "Flat nose" but how close will they get? I understand they might feed better in a semi-auto application.

I wanted to buy about 6-8 bars of soap and shoot them under some controlled comparative conditions. I would like to record pre-entry velocity and post block exit fps to get some idea of energy transferred. My hold up has been a method to stop debris from fouling the post block chronograph readings. I may do something as simple as paper or window screen material. It would almost be an insignificant amount of data points to be valid, unless the results were truly dramatic. But it would still be fun.
