the whole thing on one hunt. On an HHC hunt a few years back it was raining hard and at the lodge I took a couple of shots in the rain with my 41 GNR and thought I saw it hit a coke can out about 25 yards so I figured all was OK. Bad move. A short time later I took a shot at a big Nilgai, aiming for my favorite spot, just back of the ear. Nate was standing near me and said I hit 18" low.The Nilgai ran off and stopped at about 50 yards and looked back. Aiming at the shoulder I hit the ground 5 feet in front of him.It was obvious my scope was blown. Using my 510 GNR revolver I took 5 more shots at him, hitting him 2 times in the chest, once in the neck, once in the short ribs and once in the leg. These were close to hundred yard shots so I was lucky I hit him at all. All this was while chasing him over a 15 minute period. While I was reloading he took off for a big pond a short distance away and jumped in the pond. The holes in his chest just pulled the water in and he drowned almost immediately. So I have the only known drowned Nilgai. There is a moral to the story but there were too many screw ups on my part to break it down.
