With Garys post on the African hunt, I thought I'd pass this along. I received it in a e-mail from the service I used for the booking I used for an African hunt taken last year.

BREAKING NEWS

SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS IS NOW CHARGING TO TRANSPORT GUNS.
One of the last gun friendly airlines will now be charging to transport weapons. Before 22 May, 2019 rifles, pistols and bows were transported as part of the 2 checked bag allotment on both international and domestic flights. Now weapons will incur a $100 per segment international fee and $30 per segment domestic fee (Within South Africa). Note these charges are per segment so if Johannesburg is your final destination you would pay $100 going and then another $100 for the return flight back to the US. If you take a domestic flight in South Africa it is $30 each way. Tickets issued before 15 May will be grandfathered in at no additional charges. We have reports of hunters being charged anyway at check-in. You can obtain a refund from SAA so demand a receipt from the agent. At this point it appears as if this charge is per firearm not per gun case so if you bring two guns in one case it would be double. There is no mention of up charge for bows or crossbows.
