Gary Reeder
in over a dozen trips to Africa out of Atlanta I

have never had any problems. The first couple of trips out of JFK were nothing but trouble. Me bringing a rifle case of handguns to Africa freaked the law enforcement out at JFK and they were ready to arrest me for having unregistered handguns. They had me in a special room threatening me about having unregistered handguns in New York City. They caused me to miss my flight. Thankfully an older cop saw the logo on my jacket and asked me if I was Reeder. I told him yes and explained that i was heading to Africa. He said he was familiar with me and our guns and told the rest of the cops that he would handle it and for them to go about their various jobs. He told me I was breaking their laws and for me to not bring anymore unregistered handguns into New York City. I had missed my flight and had to hang around the terminal all day until late that evening and caught the next flight out. That in itself wasn't too bad except I had my duffel, my large gun case, my carry on and a pet carrier with a young Jack Russell pup I was delivering to South Africa to switch with another pup to bring new blood into our lines. So I had to spend 12 hours with all that. The older cop told me there wasn't any place I could store all the handguns as they were illegal and for me to hang around the terminal and if I saw another cop coming my way to go to another terminal. I spent $175 in cab fare going from terminal 1, to 2 to 3 and to 4 and back again all day. Also while I was being hassled by the City cops and the harbor cops that have to do with stuff coming in or going out by air or water, all my gear was behind me on the floor and some yoyo stole a brand new $3500 professional size video camera that was sitting there within 10 feet of me and the cops. So, never again will I travel out of JFK.
