Reeder Custom Guns - 454 question

From my reading here, it seems like some folks don't like the 454 because of the too snappy recoil. Recoil which is due to compressed load, so I wonder "why not back down the load a bit?" If the load is backed down, does this put the 454 in the same range as a hot 45 Colt? Not trying to cause trouble here, just trying to understand. Is the 454 case a longer 45 Colt case?
