I assume that is the situation with the factory recoil. That was one of the reasons I developed the 455 GNR. It is based on the 475 Linebaugh case so the same powder load that is in the 454 is not compressed in the 455 and will be easier on the shooter. And yes, the 454 is a slightly longer case than the 45 Long Colt.

And before folks get their panties in a wad, we build a lot of custom 454 revolvers. Just because I personally don't like the cartridge doesn't mean a thing. It is just a personal thing with me. If you love the 454 that is great. It is a very good cartridge that a lot of good handgun hunters love. I just don't like it. Nuff said.
