It is a lathe, able to turn a 12" piece 20" long. It is also a milling machine, drill press using the arbor in the mill, and using the lathe and chuck in the tail stock, a drill press also. I think my model is the 1220 Granite.
It's like someone giving you an airplane though. You can start it, taxi about. Getting off the ground and actually flying necessitates some higher instruction! I have made some firing pins, small parts, modified things, etc. I am dangerous drilling and tapping as I simply can't see that good anymore! I do use it to trim brass and modify rims, that is fun.
My friend poke fun at me for using lots of Trail Boss but by golly it is so handy and useful. Hard to go very wrong with it unless you compress it.
