It was called Nycad ammo. Being encapsulated lead it initially was to reduce airborne lead at police ranges. The HP version worked fantastic in .38 Snubbies. It was basically a soft lead bullet that had been powder/poly coated. Just like the current rage. That was the late 1970’s!
It was pretty quiet till tinkers got interest going and Federal (S&W original ammo contractors???) were first I saw.
Why they don’t just stick to gray or black I’ll wonder. Guys just don’t like playing with red bullets.
