be glad you aren't a tinkerer. We get 3 or 4 guns

a month where guys take them apart and think they are a gunsmith and ruin the internals. We have a really nice S&W model 17 in 22 LR in here now that the guy thought he was a gunsmith and has ruined most of the internals by taking them to a grinding wheel. We have a Browning A-5 Classic 12 gauge where the owner tinkered around inside to make it shoot 3" magnum loads and real light target loads interchangeably and he has pretty much ruined the recoil system. We get AR-15s all the time that guys have bought all the parts and tried to follow a video on how to build an AR-15 yourself and now it is all boogered up inside.

We have at least 5 or 6 guns in our safes right now where the owners watched a video on the internet and tried to do it himself and did a lot of damage to his gun. And invariably it is a classic handgun like the model 17 S&W above. My recommendation is, if you are not a gunsmith and have the tools needed and the years of experience to back it up, don't ruin a nice gun by doing it yourself.
