Jim, I love these stories, based on the many hours you have spent in the field. I, too prefer walking to stand hunting, but here in Texas it is hard these days to find enough land to do it that way.
I was dropped off at a 10' open tripod one morning near San Angelo. As, I huddled against the cold, waiting for daylight a deer or something hard hoofed scrambled over the rocks directly under me. 10 seconds later a mountain lion released that characteristic snarl right behind me, apparently annoyed
having mixed his breakfast. I never saw either animal, but I would have liked a nice box blind that morning.
