I learned to hunt deer in Louisiana and they used stands and tree climbers. I liked the climber. Climbers were in there infancy in the late 70's. I had borrowed one friend and scouted an area and put it on a tree where the wind was favorable and I could observe a scrape line. I only saw does that day. I sat in that tree from daylight until dark. When I went to climb down the foot straps came off my feet and the bottom climber piece went ratcheting down the tree to the ground 20 feet below. I know that's how far it was because my Marlin 35 Remington was leaned against the tree by a 20 foot rope. The stand knocked the gun into the leaves. So, there I was hanging on to the upper facing the tree, I had to wrap my skinny legs around this pin oak and work the upper part and re-wrap my legs around the tree. I never forgot to tie a safety rope on after that.
