It was probably 70 years ago. They stopped by one Saturday night in full dresses and hoods with torches burning. It seemed that his kindness towards the black community was not appreciated by some of the white folks in this rural Louisiana town. He stepped outside with his wife and small son and his pistol hidden behind him. And said, “we are a Christian family and serve the Lord wherever he sends us. You can burn this house and all we own and I will not stop you. But if you touch my family some of you will die. “. And then he started naming the names of the ones he new where in the group. They left without harming them or property.
My grandfather was a gospel singer and led the music at his church. He also helped with sermons as needed. The next morning the pastor was ill and asked him to preach. He did so on the 2 most important commandments according to Christ. 1.Love the Lord 2. Love your neighbor.
I miss that old man.
