A tarp and a bivisack for your sleeping bag you where protected from the weather and could cook breakfast and dinner right from the sleeping bag, using a white gas stove. Back in the 90’s I did my first hunt on Ossabaw island for deer and hogs. Back then I still did a lot of whitewater raft guiding, kayaking, and sea kayaking. I did that trip from a sea kayak, it was about the time I had gown full on handgun hunter. I had a 7.5” ruger vaquero in 45LC. I was shooting 300gr LBT’s at 1250fps with H110. Back then I didn’t know about rotating the barrel for windage so I bent the front sight to the right about 1/8” and tuck that much of the top and it was sighted in dead on at 30 yards. I loaded my sea kayak with my gear and food and water for 4 days and left fort Macalister and paddled 12 miles down the intercostal waterways, mostly the Bear River, to Ossabaw island. I was used to camping with a trap and bivi and just a white gas stove witch made my equipment list small enough for the sea kayak. I managed to take a doe and a hog over the next few days, and from that point on a handgun hunter for life. I had taken 4 gallons of water with me not knowing if there was fresh water on the island, witch there was. So I had plenty of room for the boned out meat for the trip home. I still hunt Ossabaw ever chance I get but not from a kayak anymore
