He remarked how the RB from the .36 and ".45" C&B actually proved pretty formidable in actual gunfights. Lots more than the kinetic energy figures would lead you to believe. Plus back then if you got wounded seriously the risk of sepsis was truly gruesome.

One passage recounted how he kept a little 1849 .31 Pocket model in his saddle bag for running his trap line. He'd dispatch big bobcats with it. Forgoing the drama of trying to club them to death!

I've shot them and the tiny 45 gr. RB at a listed 600-700 fps sure SEEMS more powerful than a .25 ACP! I'd actually take it over one for a fight even today.
