perhaps that's what Keith was recounting first hand. I've seen a .440 RB from a rifle shoot clean through a Whitetail at 100 yds. from only 70 gr. powder. DRT.

My personal favorite is the 1862 Pocket Police .36. If I were to arm myself today it might even be viable, although one of the .44 variants of the "Avenging Angel" might be more formidable. The little .36 is sleek and points fantastic, like an accusatory little sister.

Many predictably lean to the classic 1851 but there are many more possible variants. The refined 1861 and 62's were really getting interesting right about the time of RF cartridge conversions coming onto the scene. A guy has to have a 1858 Remington and 1860 Colt in their collection of BP wheelguns. But the others are more interesting to me. I actually prefer longer barrels with the appropriate loading leverage but to truly carry one maybe the medium lengths are a good compromise.
