are too hot for the Winchester 94. That is far from the truth. Due to both the 7 GNR and 30 GNR cases being expanded by blowing them out to almost straight with a short neck allowing more space inside for powder that is not compressed. That in itself brings the pressures down, in most cases less than a standard 30-30 or 7X30 round. Then both the 7 GNR and 30 GNR were developed for lighter weight bullets to turn the Marlin 336 and Winchester 94 into longer range antelope and deer guns, and not just a heavy brush gun that the 30-30 is commonly known for. And flat or round nose bullets in either 7mm or 30 caliber for lever guns are normally readily available, although these days you might have to search around. Both Kase and Colleen have taken these animals at well over 200 yards and both out of a handgun, 12 and 14" Contenders. Unfortunately lever guns have the distinction of being delegated as short range brush guns, and that is simply not true with either the 7GNR or 30 GNR. So in short the 7GNR and 30GNR are both fine for any of the lever guns and do extremely well in either.
