I too have tinkered with the .410 trying to make it more useful. Remember the 67 gauge is derived from the .44 WCF "shot" loads that were popular in the late 1800's. It's real problem is payload capacity. The factory slugs are actually much smaller than .41 caliber (I forget) but only weigh about 85 grs. While they are running 1600-1800 fps I find them a bit anemic. Your multi-ball approach has to be better. I even tested "cutting shells" and yes, the 3" .410 can be "cut" and it actually hits very close to where pointed at 33 yds. as one solid projectile!

Shotguns are interesting as virtually ALL gauges shoot the pellet payload at a nominal 1100-1300 fps. NO matter a 8 gauge or 9mm rimfire. It's the individual pellets that do the damage and payload capacity that determines the "possibility" of more pellet hits at range. The smaller the pellets the more likely a hit as well as less individual pellet energy. The 12 ga. 00 Buckshot load, you can likely shoot most of a box of rounds at a soda can on a post at 50 yards before scoring ONE .33 pellet hit. But at 15 yds. it's quite formidable.

The MOST devastating buckshot load I ever saw was some 10 ga. loads I made up for Puffy. These were 3.5" hulls and Rem. SP wads ahead of 42.0 grs. of Longshot! The payload consisted of 18 .350 round balls for a .36 ML and I drizzled #9 shot in all the empty air voids. The small shot served as buffer and kept the RB in good shape for uniform flight. I found the Longshot powder gave a 200 fps advantage over the classic Blue Dot typically used, these were running over 1400 fps for a 2-1/4 oz. projectile (including wad). All the pellets and a good number of #9 stayed on a 50# feed sack at 33 yds. using ANY amount of choke constriction, no matter Full or Cylinder choke! Talking about clapping your shoulder blades!
