Most Sociologists (which I am one - I minored in it) from my era place an end of the Baby Boom at the death of JFK. Some later ones try Robert Kennedy, also killed at the hand of the CIA, but that's another story. Anyway in sleepy little Arkansas life was frozen in the post war era, the horrors of the war were so great, when over, they rested and basked in the post war bliss. I too got to experience the 1950's, alas it was a decade long lingering and transition into the 1960's, too good to let go. Our town seemed to sit out the wild 60's, we went from 1959 straight to 1970 by my view.
I remember milk men, machine shops with dirt floors (although it "looked" like concrete), and folks visiting. My grandparents taught me well and took me to church. Men wore hats, but took them off, ladies had hats that matched their dresses and wore them during service. We still pour grease in cans, doesn't everyone?!
Kids now days wrinkle up their nose and call me "Boomer" like it's a bad thing. Their ignorance will be short-lived. That is my fear. May God help us in these perilous times.
