It would be prudent, and require a man that new what he was doing. If he could manufacture a special steel, heat treated, cylinder that would certainly be affirmative. That's one of the weakest points in that frame. Or That's where I've seen pictures of them letting go.

Long range shooting with a handgun back then was a bit of a trick. I myself, prefer just using what I have. Maybe reference points on the front sight. Provided the rear provides a good picture. My granddad in WWII was an Airforce policeman. Do they call them MP's?! They didn't teach him to use the sights on his revolver, shoot from the hip. He had to pour half-cups of coffee later in life, he shook so badly. But even then he could bounce a can at a notable distance firing sort of "half-hip" crouch stance. It was remarkable to me. I still have his civillian replacement M&P Victory in .38 Special. It came through as a U.S. Postal sell off that was originally issued to a Navy ship. He bought it for $7 I believe. Carried it as a County Deputy in the mounted patrol
