I went the other direction 180 degrees, as is my norm. It has to be interesting to me. Doug had this M64 that the UPS busted all up. Actually it was lots worse than the pictures. I finally fixed it using old gunsmithing techniques with modern Brownell's Accraglass. It's uber sound for that rare buttstock. Rather than selling it with a discount and story about the repairs I just bought Doug out. I like to keep a .30-30 around and traded my post-64 M94 off to garner some funds toward this pre-64 (made right at the war time when production was in limbo several years).

I decided to go optics using antique new-old-stock sourced parts. I even mounted a vintage Weaver K4. However the larger 3rd. mounting screw on the pre-64's is an obsolete thread pitch and size. I mean it's a crazy #11, not 10/12. I've tested them not to be compatible. I could drill out and re-thread to modern but I've held off so far. But in lieu I epoxied the mount to the receiver with the removable 5 min stuff and used the two screws that did fit. I've not tested it yet but soon. If Jim's accuracy is a benchmark surely I can get close with optics and powder coated cast bullets. We'll see.
