Even my RCBS can drip sometimes. I've had two of the older style LEE's and they both dripped so bad that I finally tapped a screw hole in the spout of one and plugged with a screw. For the money there is no comparison, and the new style LEE looks improved. There was a reason for that. I'd go for it though. It's less than $100 vs $400+. I actually enjoy using a Lyman or RCBS dip ladle and open top pot. If you've never cast before you might consider an open top design to start, with a good Ladle (that's not a LEE).
I can go into your kitchen right now, along with a propane cooker and make a good serviceable kit. It would ruin the pot for anything else but you could do it. Consider the basics of the deed, weigh the value of more advanced equipment, it might be worth it, maybe later. Even used equipment has value. I bought my RCBS pot used for 1/4 retail. The main benefit is it makes 20# of blended alloy at a time.
I'm very excited for you on your new quest. It's just as much fun as buying guns or shooting to me.
