It sells guns in the showroom and makes great mechanical bargains a few years later. Actually if you have the skill and time to use some harsh chemical to remove it all and re-do a nice matte hand rubbed Tung finish they can be a great value. I've done that many times and made some extra cash to trade, up for all my efforts, a labor of love.

I think makers use some type of clear lacquer that is spray applied.

We had a Micro-Medallion in 7mm-08 that was nice. The flop down mag was mainly useful for "unloading". We just loaded from the top as normal. In that line I was mainly more attracted to the synthetic versions, some in stainless looked really good. Have to really shop for a bargain, but that's fun.

A big gun like the .338 it seems are bought for a specific trip or goal. Once that passes they become safe queens for a few years until resurrected for some quick cash. They kick too much for a deer rifle or casual shooting for most. That what I capitalize upon.

I forgot about the Weatherby Vanguard line of HOWA built rifles, they too can be had at a great used value. Not many in calibers bigger than.300 Weatherby. But that is a good one!
