a "do it all forever" rifle. He trusted me and I think at the time I did him pretty well. I got a deal on a matte blue, synthetic Remington 700 with adj. iron sights in .300 Weatherby Mag. cal. He wanted the Wby. cal over the just as effective Winchester. I scoped it with an excellent Leupold 6x40mm fixed 1" scope in Leupold med. mounts. One could easily remove the scope with a coin and shoot irons. We had it Mag-na-ported too which was wonderful, I think it cost $100 at that time.

The 6x40 transmitted max light and was plenty for about anything you had business shooting at. If it was farther than that could manage maybe you should stalk closer. Plus being fixed power it bought you precious seconds NOT screwing with a magnification ring when you should be lining up a possible shot!
