A sensible handgun hunter would pick a good flat shooting and hard hitting single shot and be happy. However there is a temptation to arm oneself with a more "sidearm'ish" hunting wheelgun. The criteria mandates a 8" barrel and optical sights of some sort. Preemptively perhaps special markings of the parent case too on the gun (.44 Mag.-.41 GNR etc.). The 8" thing instantly knocks out many arms one might already have on hand. It must shoot relatively flat to 100-150 yds. and hit plenty hard as the animals cling to life more than your domestic Whitetail. An interesting motive for a build. The hot .40-.44/.45 class rounds instantly come to mind. Tough bullets in the 220-300 gr. class? And how are you going to carry it? Too big for a belt holster, really. Al Goerg figured it out long ago...
Can a "brake" be added to gain an inch or two and make a legal SAHR ?

My Super Redhawk in .429 GNR (9.5") would be a no-brainer as a choice but I had some lovely vixens added to adorn. While I enjoy them it might be a problem in customs in some countries, seriously. Doug had a .44 Mag. custom made with a new 8" barrel and it is glorious. I really hope he gets to add a colorful story to it's purpose. One I really lament not meeting the criteria is the Bisley Hunter in .41 GNR, only 7.5" barrel and not worth "trying" to beat customs and confiscation. Can something be done?

I can't plan a trip right now but I love to live on hope and buy guns to enjoy the dream. Plus I can use them locally for more domestic settings.

I may need a special gun or modify one for a "South African" Custom Hunter role. Maybe add a brake to the Bisley. If Huey can knock over a critter with a .25-20 (he planned that a long time) I figure a determined man could successfully wield a good hunting revolver to good effect. It sure would be fun scheming and testing.
