used federal primers and don't remember the last time I had a squib. The problem on the load above was a bad or old primer. In my meager experience H322 needs a magnum primer and a full load. Too light a load and the powder is not near the primer. When you get a squib load and the powder turns yellow and stinks, it is usually a bad primer or a primer that was not hot enough. Way back a hundred years ago I had a few loads like that but they were with a too light load in a 45-70 TC barrel. I went to a hotter load that pretty much filled the case and a magnum primer and never had that problem anymore. I like a lightly compressed load. Air in the case between the powder and bullet can and does cause misfires. You need that powder back against the primer for perfect ignition. Alcorn learned from J.D.Jones, while I learned from Lee Jurras. Both good teachers and both put out good info.
