Contender to make sure the airlines hadn't screwed it up. On the first shot the front lens rolled out and fell on the ground. Luckily I had a spare scope with me. Back then the heavy kicking Contenders damaged a lot of scopes. My 450 GNR was a 12" barrel, no porting and no muzzle brake, so one didn't shoot 20 rounds every Sunday with it. Plus back then, 1992, I believed all the gun writers that I had to have 500 grain solids in my 450 GNR so I loaded them balls to the wall with the 500 grain Hornady solids. It is sort of a coincidence that 26 years later I was back in Africa with a single shot pistol in 450 GNR and using the new Hornady 500 grain solids and a few 500 grain soft points. Most of my bullets I have used thru the years in my handguns have been either Hornady or Sierra. They have never let me down.
