Bullet Re-sizing to smaller diameters

This was an exercise I did a while back. The left is a .411 Hornady 300 gr. for a .405 Winchester that has been resized to .401". It is lengthened very slightly, and if you look close the interface between lead tip and jacket, has a very subtle change you can see. The jacket flexed just a little, then sprung back. Probably did not hurt a thing. The other bullet is a half-ass "white" powder coat .410" 270 gr. W/O the gas check on it as of yet, also sized to .401. You can see it too has been lengthened a few thousandths. Also note the plastic shell/jacket has not suffered any notable stress. It's fun stuff. Even though they look natty they would shoot just fine.

Now either would do for a custom single shot or heavy in a .38-40. I think I was playing with the 300 gr. for a custom .401 WSL load. I had to use special short cases to hold the bullet to an OAL that would fit the magazine. The 270 gr. FNGC is a fantastic .41 Magnum bullet, good in the .405 Winchester, and resized, a perfect .401 WSL hunting round close mimic of the factory loading. Simply a hammer for a custom load .38-40.
