Cleaning itself is not that bad in moderation. It's just a fact the more you mess with something that is working the greater the chance you may have a negative influence. BY ALL MEANS you need to test fire the rig before going on a hunt, using it for self defense, or going to a shoot. ALWAYS!

Same for your reloads. Always check them, a bunch of them, for full chambering and activating the firearm's internal safeties. I've been snookered on that before. Even if for no reason in the world other than to pay homage to Murphy.

Revolvers are not immune either. I once got some unburned grains of 2400 under the ejector star on a Redhawk. Locked it up tight. Ditto exponentially for a FA anything. There is a reason they sell .44 Special "cylinders" to go with a .44 Magnum gun. They demand no fouling or sloppy reloads. There has to be a happy medium. A working gun can benefit from a good wipedown but be cautious for a teardown. I knew better.
