The old Remington 550 is just not very sexy. When they are cleaned sparingly and used frequently they seem to do very well. When one is having issues it takes real skill to remedy them. That is in short supply with gunsmiths today. If it's not a plug and play part you need a REAL gunsmith and they are dying off fast.
The Nylon has little springs and stuff that can fly out and the drawings available are a little sketchy to put them back. I've seen several as parts guns where some dude was gonna "fix" it and got skunked.
The infamous words of Dirty Harry "a man has got to know his limitations". Its the discovery of them, the boundaries, that is challenging and the real adventure.
