We measured the brass before starting the project...

Starline 44-40 brass was .462" on the base. That put it .006" larger than the 44 Magnum brass we measured. I thought it was closer to 45 Colt too.

That made it .003" larger on the radius. The existing cylinder window allowed us to put a .008" larger diameter cylinder without opening the window.

In the end, thickness at the bottom of the lock notch was .002" more on the 44-40 cylinder than the factory 44 Magnum cylinder.

I still limit my 44-4O loads to 30k out of respect for the thinner cases.
