what the factory uses. Most ammo companies have their own special powders. Years ago I talked to Lee Jurras about loading Winchester 296 in one of my Ruger 44 Super Blackhawks. I pulled a bullet out of a Winchester round and assumed the powder was 296 as it looked the same. Lee told me almost all companies had their own concoction in powder. Lee said he used Winchester 297 in his Super Vel ammo. He gave me an 8 lb. jug of it and instructions to drop 1 grain from my 296 loads.

What all this is getting to is don't assume it is a certain powder. Go by the loading manual. As far as crimping, most seating dies will taper crimp a rifle round. I think Lee Reloading makes a special crimp die but I have never tried one. I just taper crimp the mouth of the case in the seater die. That has always worked for me.
