Checked and his Hornady brass was shorter. Somewhere it seems I saw this to be required since FTX bullets were longer,,, and they shouldn’t be seated past shoulder and possibly in a lever gun they might not function.
I have 2 sets or dies for the 30-30. The cowboy ones by RCBS work great on lead with a roll crimp.
The other RCBS crimp die I use is a taper crimp and I use it on Jacketed bullets.
I like the 30-30 and have a 14” TC barrel and 2 rifles one 1894 Winchester, and even a 26” barreled Whinny in the AE version.
Loading a Swift 170 grain makes for a good pill for just about anything.
I loaded a few different pointy jacketed bullets for the TC too.
I agree on the powders,,,, even with so called Leverrevolution the velocity is not quite as the factory.
Remember if you don’t have a expanding die you can always just bump the brass with a 38sp expander. I did it for years. Go slow,,,
