how tall a sight I needed. Ramp + sight = good. I took an old No.4 MKI mismatch with a headspace issue and finished the sporterization. The bolt heads are numbered, I researched it and got the next tighter sized head and it restored the shooting. Before it was separating case heads on the second loading. I cut the barrel back to 16" and ordered the correct steel Lyman ramp and front bead sight. I had my Gunsmith silver solder the front back on and he spot blued it. It was one of the best little projects and truck guns I ever did. A historic 10-shot .303 carbine with ghost ring sights I could see through. Then I sold it!???
It was still pretty heavy at 7 lbs. The Lee Enfield is made from steel and will never be a lightweight. I wish I had it back. I did the same thing to a Swiss Schmidt Ruben straight pull that had been rechambered in the 1960's to .308 Win. What a Goober I am for letting those neat rigs go.
