I mostly go right along with what has been said. I try for the most part to shoot right behind the ear. Done it before with soft lead trotting along at 750fps. Done it many times with 22 mag. If hog is facing towards me then I always try to go right between the shoulders. NEVER in the head ! Spine shots drop them.
But these things can be tough in real life. Sometimes you have to take what presentation you are given, or pass on. Wild hogs rarely stop moving. If you are shooting offhand like most of my shots on hogs then you will be moving to. My strongest suggestion is to be well versed on shooting offhand with both an accurate gun and accurate load. This way you will be very happy with the end results of your SUCCESS. Shooting the proverbial double shoulder shot will work. They will usually run with one of those. That makes it tough in some of my hunting grounds as well as Florida swamps or just thick palmettos and brush. Your loads and guns sound great.
Lead or JHPs both work when the POI is in some vital.
Why do I like the spine so much? Because I have seen and even happened to me you shoot a hog in what you think was vitals and sometimes even break a leg or something you would think would slow or stop them. The adrenaline and their tenacity drives them deep into hiding and the fat, sometimes, the hair, and sometimes mud,, be it dried or moist. will slow down,,, or stop blood flow making it near impossible or follow a trail in certain vegetation. But this is without dogs of course.
Practice cocking that pistol quick for a follow up shot and be ready for hog number 2. Shooting a pig on the run is very exciting. Close shots like 20yds or under get it on the head,, keep moving and you will not be behind. I do wish you great success.
