Winchester model 70 actions with heavy barrels chambered in 22-250 Improved. The Improved version was so I could shoot the heavier bullets. I put Burris 8X32X40 scopes and at 32 power I could see what the prairie dogs had for lunch.

I learned to dope the wind by aiming 2 dogs to one side, or 3 dogs to one side or if they were way out there and standing up put the horizontal crosshair flat on top of their heads. I would pull my Jeep out to the edge of a big prairie dog town, set my sandbags on the hood, lay my spotting scope beside it (although at my scope's 32 power I rarely used the spotting scope. I would take a couple hundred rounds of ammo with me and seldom took any home. Even with about a 90% kill ratio I never even made a dent in the dogs.
