Around here the pre/post-64 M-94's

are about 50% to 100% apart in price. Old beater M94's are running $400-600 and Pre-64 are $600-1200. Lots depends on condition and any mods, condition of wood etc. Common old 20" carbines seems most in demand and any "pistol" caliber ones (post 64) are tops. They actually made a .44 Magnum M94 in the 1960's. Boy I'd love one. Later ones were made as well, .45 Colt too. I saw one this week. Angle eject .45 Colt! He wants an arm and two legs for it! The pre-64 Winchester is a little slicker feeling but it's not THAT much difference to me.

A sleeper deal on a M94 is a commemorative Winchester (they made tons of them) that has no box and has been shot some. A little finish wear is great for the price drop. No one really wants them and they can have fantastic extra features for fair money. Crescent butts, octagon barrels, rifle configurations, carbine, pistol grips/levers, engraved receivers, and nicer wood. I can overlook some medallion in the butt stock and enjoy the solid pre-safety M94 rifle. One of my favorites was the "Canadian" commemorative. No one wants them and they had nice heavy octagon barrels, scroll engraving, nice wood and fancy butt plates.

I still have an old pre-safety Big Bore XTR 94 in .375 Win. I traded Puffy out of. It's a truly cherished piece, I consider it the peak of M94 development. My view anyway.

Gary's fancy Marlin is a super deal as old beater grade rifles seem $750-1000 for common 336 here. I used to turn them away for $250, not all that long ago!
