and I've read "running them wet". Sounds like a heck of a mess to me but In can understand how it would make it quieter if not shooting crazy.

I use the Break Free with CLP and a new product by "Royal Purple" a friend gave me. With all lubes I apply then basically wipe it off. Not harshly rub but lightly wipe it back off. In reality you can't and that light residual lubricates with out attracting an unusual amount of lint and grime. It's always worked for me. But then I've never been very good at doing what folks have told me to do anyway.
