not sure). Two friends developed the small mini revolvers and developed a super strong large caliber revolver. They didn't get along well so they split up but both had patent rights to the mini and the large frame revolver. One fellow was the guy that had the North American mini revolver. The other was Wayne Baker who had the Freedom Arms mini revolver. The large revolver from NA Arms became the 450 Magnum, also called the 450 Express (and they are rare today. I have seen a couple).

The one from Freedom Arms became the model 83 in 454. That is the story I was told many years ago, probably 20 or more. Second or even third hand info. Take it with a grain of salt.
