I cannot fathom the possibility of shooting a full auto 5.56 with a 7" barrel, and NO hearing protection. It's like someone swatting you in the face with a wet towel.

But I guess in a real firefight it mostly goes unnoticed. The blow back system for pistol class cartridges was proven long ago, with only 5-6 moving parts it's hard to fault.
