at the station across from Ft. Campbell, I had several hunting buddies in the 101st. Once one of them called and asked what time I could get out of the station. I had the morning show so i was out of there by noon. he said to meet him at the back gate at Ft. Campbell and we would go shooting. We went to a hanger size Quonset Hut that was stacked full of guns of all types. On one wall was wooden boxes with 6 Ingrams in each box. Then there were boxes and boxes of loaded magazines. The Ingram MAC 10s were all marked Cobray with the snake logo on them. I asked him what they were going to do with them. he said nothing at that time. Our wonderful President Johnson (a pathetic moron) had deemed them too dangerous for collateral damage so they were not allowed to be shipped over. The MAC 10 was a great choice for heavy jungle where you needed a big heavy 45 caliber slug to plow thru the heavy vegetation and hit the bad guys. This was about the time Johnson was proclaiming shotguns were not good for Viet Nam again due to collateral damage. There were hundreds of short barreled shotguns there lined up against one wall about 100 yards long. There were Winchester Model 12s, Remington 870s, Ithaca Model 37s and some Stevens. I don't remember the model number, along with one or two real short barrel Remington Model 1100s and maybe some others I don't remember right now. If memory serves me the pumps were also a lot shorter than the normal 18", maybe 14" if I remember right. But some neat stuff. I got to shoot thousands of rounds of 45, 223, 9mm and 12 gauge and all free. It was good to have friends with access to that stuff.

Anyway, we didn't get to shoot the MAC 10s as they were on hold for transit to someplace where we couldn't do any collateral damage. But we did shoot a lot of other guns, mostly 1911s, M-16s, some shotguns and M-14s. My friend showed me some neat toys that were slated to be shipped to Viet Nam. One was the S&W model 10 with a suppressor attached to it for the tunnel rats. There were other things that I wish I had had a brain them to take pictures of them.Good memories.
