revolver cartridges are, for a mid weight bullet. I took an African Savannah Buffalo with my 410 GNR and a 250 grain bullet and it did the job with one shot, point of shoulder. The next year I decided to try my new 455 GNR and a friend talked me into trying a heavy bullet in the 375 to 400 grain weight range. I hit the buffalo 4 times on or around the point of shoulder and after each shot he ran off. A long tracking session later I hit him again a bit farther back behind the front leg and the same thing. Finally I put one just back of his ear and that stopped him. When skinning him out any of the first 5 or 6 shots should have killed him but none penetrated more than 2 inches. That soured me on the extra heavy bullets. Pics of that buffalo are shown below. A couple were not a killing shot but the animal was at a trot after the first shot. But any of the other shots should have put him down and none did, nor did they even slow him down. And these shots were equal to a hot 454 Casull but the heavy bullet slowed them down too much for a good clean kill and for deep penetration.

Our Alaskan guide and outfitter and good friend George Faerber has banned the extra heavy lead bullets in his camp due to them not putting the bears down immediately and not penetrating deep enough for a good clean kill.

So I am not sold at all on those extra heavy bullets.
