Back in the 90s there were some rations available that weren't very good and you had to eat them cold or find some way to heat them up. The MREs have been very useful as food to bring along on a hunting trip. No matter where you are you can have warmish to hot food with little preparation. The GIs here get the chemical heaters going and put them inside their jackets to get warm on cold mornings. If you plan to live off the land here in Alaska, i.e., to eat fish that you catch or shoot grouse or game birds, you should also plan to be hungry a lot of the time while doing it. Bring food with you!
