There are several neat rounds based on the 7.62x39

That 5.45 .22 is one and .22 PPC or .220, and 6mm Russian. There is a 9X39mm that is actually a 9.3 or .366" round. It shoots a whole assortment of specialty rounds for the Russian special forces, mostly very heavy subsonic applications. Roman wanted one but I got a .450 Bushmaster first and we just have not gotten around to it in rotation.

They have some very cool stuff now. One rifle larger than an AK has a geared rod or counterweight that shoots forward at the same time the bolt is launched rearward. This totally cancels out recoil forces and in full auto no less.
